Position Title: Heavy Equipment Mechanic
Department/Project: TSS‑E Range Sustainment – Fort Irwin
Position Summary
The Heavy Equipment Mechanic performs maintenance and repair of construction and material‑handling
equipment used to support range sustainment operations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Inspect, troubleshoot, and repair diesel and gasoline engines, hydraulic systems, transmissions,
braking systems, and undercarriages on heavy equipment.
• Perform preventive maintenance services in accordance with OEM and contractual standards.
• Diagnose mechanical and hydraulic faults using test equipment and technical manuals.
• Maintain repair logs, parts usage records, and maintenance schedules.
• Ensure shop and field maintenance operations are conducted safely with proper PPE, lockout/tagout,
and environmental controls.
Minimum Qualifications
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Three (3) years of heavy equipment maintenance experience or equivalent military MOS.
• Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and hydraulic schematics.
