Job Summary

The Electronic Technician Ill works at Fort Irwin range and training area locations supported by the TSS-E Range Sustainment contract. Conducts preventive maintenance, troubleshoots AC/DC failures, and repairs electronic/electrical devices, radio and telephone equipment, and other  range and training area electrical support equipment, for all Training Areas, Ranges, Urban Operating sites, and Forward Operating Bases. This is a union position.

Summary of Essential Job Functions

  • Ensures safety practices and requirements on all electronic/electrical maintenance and operation tasks are conducted safely by lower-level positions.
  • Provides advanced technical knowledge and training to lower-level positions, troubleshoot and isolate electronic/electrical AC/DC equipment faults that cannot be solved solely by referencing technical manuals.
  • Performs Preventative Maintenance (PM) associated with all electrical systems, devices, and equipment, and buildings.
  • Plan and coordinate with the management for specific dates, times, for electronic/electrical systems, devices and equipment on ranges and training areas, including radio and telephone equipment needed to successfully support training events.
  • Ensures guidelines, regulations, policies and standard operating procedures, and work instructions are adhered to by lower-level positions.
  • Assist management reviewing for accuracy for electrical maintenance actions work order and logs created and closed in the government HIPPO work order system.
  • Ensures bench stocks are maintained with quantities of repair parts for electronic/electrical systems, devices and equipment on ranges and training areas, including radio and telephone equipment.
  • Conducts Quality Assurance (QA) inspection/audit schedule and checklists on all electronic/electrical systems, devices and equipment on ranges and training areas, including radio and telephone equipment.
  • Provides management with detailed status updates on all electronic/electrical systems, devices and equipment on ranges and training areas, including radio and telephone equipment.
  • Supports the management with updates on all SOPs & WI’s.
  • Presents classes and briefings to soldiers and other users, pertaining to safety or Range Control related equipment.
  • Provides technical advice and assistance to lower-level positions.
  • Safeguards and maintains assigned Government and company property.
  • Assist management with work orders and places required parts on provided maintenance and order forms.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Supplementary Functions may include

    • Provides technical advice and assistance, Generator Mechanics, Electricians, and HVAC Mechanics
    • Provide and submit equipment status to upper management personnel and other authorized offices as required.
    • Ensures lower-level positions personnel operating equipment are properly trained on operating procedures and safety requirements.
    • Reads and interprets electrical and hydraulic schematics.
    • Inspects and troubleshoots target systems and associated equipment using provided test equipment.
    • Inspects and repairs all related equipment used on ranges and training areas.
    • Provides customer-oriented safety instructions as required on the use of range systems.
    • Presents classes and briefings to soldiers and other users, pertaining to safety or Range Control related equipment.
    • Responding to after hour device repair work orders.
    • Performs inspection on ranges and training areas to ensure safety and enforcement of Army regulation.

Minimum Requirements

    • High School Diploma or equivalent.
    • Diploma or Certification in Electronics or an associated field (Electrical, HVAC, Remote Communication systems) from a state certified college or trade school.
    • Electronic technicians must have five (5) years verifiable experience working in the electronic/electrical field.
    • Minimum two (2) experience servicing, repairing and fielding of military target devices. Knowledgeable in basic supply issue/receive/storage functions.
    • Must have a working knowledge in the maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of hydraulic – electrical machinery.
    • Must have experience using mechanic hand tools, volt/ohm meters and other electrical/electronic measuring and testing instruments required of a certified Electrician and an Electronic repair technician to measure power, both AC and DC. Must understand the application and function of targets and associated equipment.
    • Must be computer literate to be able to operate range computer systems.
    • Must have a basic understanding of military range control and field training operations: familiar with military phraseology and acronyms; must know how to orient and read a military map to an eight-digit grid coordinate, and basic knowledge of military weapons and ammunition.
    • Knowledgeable in hazardous material/waste handling.
    • A valid California Class “C” Driver’s License.
    • Know how to use FM radio equipment.
    • Must be able to write and listen with comprehension to assist customers with range maintenance problems.
    • Ability to use and interpret Army Manuals.
    • Ability to use good judgment and common sense when performing job functions.
    • Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
    • Familiar with Microsoft Office, such as power point, word, excel and outlook
    • Ability to function under sometime stressful conditions.

The employee is required to drive civilian and military wheeled vehicles up to and including full-size trucks. The employee must lift and move up to 75 pounds. The employee is required to wear and use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) appropriate to individual job tasks, including but not limited to safety boots, safety headgear, eye protection, and hand protection. The employee is required to work in frequent exposure to dust, desert pollen, extreme heat, and cold associated with desert environment and natural conditions existing on Fort Irwin.
