Position Title: Range Operations Specialist (ROS)
Department/Project: TSS‑E Range Sustainment – Fort Irwin
Position Summary
The Range Operations Specialist coordinates and controls day‑to‑day operations of live‑fire and maneuver
training ranges, ensuring safe, compliant, and efficient support to unit training.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Operate range control systems, communications equipment, and target control consoles in support of
scheduled training.
• Coordinate with unit leadership and Government Range Control to open, close, and monitor ranges in
accordance with local regulations and SOPs.
• Enforce safety procedures and cease‑fire criteria; report violations, incidents, and near‑misses
through prescribed channels.
• Maintain range schedule awareness; verify unit arrival/departure, ammunition status, and training
objective completion.
• Record daily range usage, events, incidents, and equipment status in required logs and databases.
• Provide guidance to units on range capabilities, restrictions, and walk‑throughs when required.
• Coordinate with Range Maintenance and technical personnel to resolve target and infrastructure
issues affecting operations.
Minimum Qualifications
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Prior military training/operations experience or prior range operations experience strongly preferred.
• Strong verbal communication skills and ability to work in a high‑tempo control‑room environment.
• Ability to obtain and maintain all required installation access and security credentials.

• May work non‑standard hours and rotating shifts; eligible for shift differentials as provided in Article
20.
